provides opportunities for families and individuals to make life changes that will prevent future homelessness.

Stepping Stone Shelter, Inc. provides assistance to homeless families and single individuals by developing a continuum of care system. Through an initial interview and screening, an honest endeavor will be made to determine need. Race, color, gender, national origin, religion, disability, or sexual preference shall not be a factor in this determination.

Stepping Stone Reopens

Stepping Stone Shelter received a one time allocation from the State of Kansas for much needed infrastructure renovations. This project began in fall of 2025, and the shelter was closed for construction. This project includes (but not limited to) adding more accessible rooms for persons with disabilities and creating a safe and fully functioning commercial kitchen to serve residental clients and visitors to the soup kitchen.

  • Beginning Monday, March 9, we will reopen the soup kitchen to the public for lunch (12:00–1:00 p.m.) and dinner (5:00–6:00 p.m.) as we fine-tune operations and train our new team in the commercial kitchen.

  • On March 16 at 11:00 a.m., we will celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by tours of the facility.

  • After the ceremony, we will begin accepting new clients for overnight stays on a limited basis, welcoming five new individuals per week until we reach capacity.

With our contruction almost complete we are now accepting applications for client supervisors. Starting salary is $12 per hour with a $1.00 differential paid for overnight shifts. The positions we have are M-F Afternoon/Evening shift M-F Overnight Shift which are both full time positions. We also have Saturday/Sunday Day and Night Shifts which are part time positions. The weekend shifts will be 12hrs each. Please stop by 304 N Lincoln from 8am - 3pm M-F to pick up an application or call the Shelter to make an appointment. 620-626-6024
